SEEDS Fellowship
The Undergraduate Research Fellowships serve the SEEDS mission by providing independent research opportunities for underrepresented students to advance their experience in ecology and their pursuit of a career in ecology.  The Fellowship allows undergraduate students to complete an independent research project.  This project includes working with program staff to select a research site and well-matched mentor, writing a research proposal and budget, conducting research in the field and/or lab, analyzing results and writing a paper, and presenting research at an ESA Annual Meeting.  Each Fellow has a research mentor, a PhD ecologist from the ESA membership, to provide support throughout the project.  The SEEDS Fellowship is essentially a mini-thesis that prepares students for research.  The SEEDS program also provides support through stipends, designated staff, networking with other Fellows, workshops, etc.

2009-2010 Undergraduate Research Fellowship
We are now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 SEEDS Undergraduate Research Fellowship.  The deadline to apply for the fellowship is September 22, 2008.  For more information and to apply, please visit http://www.esa.org/seeds/fellowship/. Please review the application carefully, as the format has changed slightly.

SEEDS Field Trips
Student Field Trips meet the SEEDS mission by providing exciting opportunities for underrepresented undergraduate students to explore their interests in ecology.  Field trips allow students to spend four to seven days at an ecologically significant site, such as a field station, research laboratory, or national park, learning about the science of ecology, exploring career options, and seeing the practical applications of ecology.  Students have the opportunity to find out more about what ecologists do through hands-on experiences with professionals, to receive training in specific areas, and to build networks with students and professionals.

Fall 2008: Harvard Forest Long Term Ecological Research Site
We are now accepting applications for the 2008 SEEDS Fall Field Trip.  The field trip will take place from October 16-19 at the Harvard Forest LTER site in Petersham, Massachusetts, about 65 miles west of Boston.  This field trip provides a unique opportunity for students to learn from, and perhaps contribute to, scientific research prorams taking place within the long term ecological research network.  The deadline to apply for the Fall field trip has been extended to August 22, 2008.  For more information about this field trip and to apply, please visit http://www.esa.org/seeds/fieldtrips/Harvard%20Forest%20Details.php.  Please review the application carefully, as the format has changed slightly.

Spring 2009: Rocky Mountain Biological Field station
The 2009 SEEDS Spring Field Trip will take place at the Rocky Mountain Biological Field Station.  The SEEDS Spring field trip is longer than the fall field trip, generally lasting one week.
Keep an eye on our website for more information about this field trip.  More information and the application will be available around the beginning of 2009.

Please feel free to email us at seeds@esa.org if you have any questions.

More information about the SEEDS program as well as other great student opportunities are available on our website at
