Presidential
Management Fellows (PMF) program with the US Forest Service
The
Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program is a competitive two-year
appointment run through the Office of Personnel Management. The goal of the
program is to hire graduate students into the federal government, and to help
provide the training and development opportunities for them to excel and
establish a career in federal service. More information on the program can be
found at: www.pmf.opm.gov,
on our agency website: http://www.fs.fed.us/fsjobs/pmf/index.html.
The Forest Service is actively recruiting graduate students in natural
resources and related fields to apply for the program. The US Forest Service
will likely hire between 10 and 20 fellows next spring. PMFs hold a range of
jobs all across the country, from on-the-ground field work to policy
development. The Forest Service offers PMFs a broad range of challenging
projects and numerous opportunities for leadership development and training,
plus unique contact with agency leadership.
In order to participate, students must apply to the PMF Program beginning in
September. Universities must also formally nominate students, a process that
can be set up easily with OPM. You might encourage your student members to
check with their university colleagues to see if their school already has a nomination
process in place. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the
program or my personal experience with the Forest Service and can be reached by
email at dcoelho@fs.fed.us.
I can be reached by phone at 907-747-4249 until September 28th, 202-205-1695
after that date.
Thank you for taking the time to read these materials. And I hope to see some
of your best student members in the program next year.
Kind regards,
Dana
